A Top Travel Experience: Paragliding through Slovenia

Running off a cliff strapped to a stranger, getting caught by the air and gliding through the sky with the power of the a parachute holding you above the ground. Incredible to say the least.

Paragliding is a unique experience, much different to sky diving and hang gliding, yet similar in the sense that your power is taken away by the powers that be, to keep you safe and free. Literally free from standing on the ground.

Slovenia was a great spot to experience Paragliding over lakes and mountains. I took off from Mt Vogel over Lake Bohinj and through the valley.

I visited Slovenia near the end of my postgraduate scholarship exchange back in 2008. Ljubljana is the capital city and a fantastic quaint one at that. It has a strong cafe/bar culture on either side of a river that runs through the town. It has it’s fair share of creativity and colour too!

Lake Bled and Vintgar are also beautiful spots to visit in Slovenia.

Lake Bled is a giant lake with a little island in the middle where a church sits. It’s a great spot to cycle around and even try paddling out to the island!

Vintgar on the other hand reminded me of New Zealand’s gorges. It’s a beautiful spot of winding wooden paths around cliffs and bridges over the stunning river below. Near the end is a lovely waterfall to bask in the sunshine nearby.

Paragliding through Slovenia was one of my Top Travel Experiences Before I’m 30 – I wish I had a GoPro at the time to show you the paragliding experience itself! I’d love to do more paragliding, but not sure if I’d have the guts to do it alone! It provides such an incredible feeling of freedom from the world below that is pretty unique.
