Hiking up Machu Picchu Mountain, a Top Travel Experience

Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu, view from Machu Picchu Mountain (one time I was glad to overcome my fear of heights)

When I think back about this experience, I think of the shaky legs, the deep breathes of fear looking down the side of the stone steps as I climbed the highest mountain in the region of Machu Picchu.

But what an achievement it was!

While many people opt for hiking Huayna Picchu, I chose what was considered the safer mountain, but what I didn’t realise was how much higher it was!

It had an incredible view down over the ancient city and really brought a wave of wonder and awe as I stared out over the mountains and city. How can such a place exist in such a difficult to reach area?

This is one of my Top 30 Travel Experiences Before I’m 30 for it’s sheer uniqueness. There is nothing like hiking up Machu Picchu Mountain anywhere else in the world. It was a challenge and an incredible moment in my travelling life.
