Afternoon Tea: Zealong Tea Estate, Waikato, New Zealand

Nestled away in the farmlands of Gordonton in the Waikato, minutes from Hamilton is an estate of green tea called Zealong. As the sun shone down one bright Saturday I joined a few family members for another high tea birthday (last time it was for my birthday).

With a new menu at Zealong, it was a difficult choice between the ‘Classic’ or ‘Signature’ high tea. Last time I’d ordered the Signature and was delighted with all the tastes and textures. This time I couldn’t help myself and had to order the new menu of Signature again, as did one of my sisters. The rest of the table sampled the Classic High Tea.

With tea pots at either end of the table keeping hot water warm, we managed to keep well hydrated on a selection of the Zealong teas.

Our menu was delightful from savoury to sweet. I particularly liked the Witloof Tarte Tatin and Aromatic Mousse, but everything was incredible. Being an anti-mushroom fiend that was the only item I wasn’t a huge fan of.

All around the table were whispers of awe at the different flavours on our tiers.

Having visited to Zealong twice now, I would not hesitate to go again. It’s a beautiful estate to visit with friendly staff and on a sunny day there couldn’t be a better spot for high tea or a yummy meal!
