Meeting the San Bushmen of Namibia

Living Museum San Bushmen

Crossing over the border to Namibia the next activity was going to meet the San Bushmen. A group of people living in the desert who showed us their traditional ways of life. Making fire from scratch, finding poison and creating arrows to hunt with, their methods of finding water, food etc.

They don’t smoke the traditional tobacco, instead its a mix of rabbit poo and bark – a few people in the group tried it and said it actually tasted quite nice!

The bushmen (and women) were driven out of their land and are no longer allowed to hunt, so have to buy food today.

They showed us their traditional games and a few dances, but to be honest it was feeling pretty touristy and not entirely realistic. The people are all very beautiful and their clicking language is lovely. It is a pity their culture and traditions are being lost with the new generations.
