Petra, Jordan – A Top Travel Experience

Urn Tomb, Petra. Jordan
Some places take dedication to reach. This ‘Top Travel Experience’ is one of those…
Petra, Jordan, from Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt… yes it’s quite a way.
It involved a couple of buses, a ferry, another bus (or two) then I arrived with just a few hours to spare in one of the new 7 wonders of the world and a World Heritage Site: The lost city of Petra.
Vast amounts of sandstone and clay make up this incredible valley that is home to some of the most ancient incredible structures I’ve seen.

Canyon leading to the Treasury, Petra, Jordan
Wandering down the Siq, over a kilometre in length all you can do is feel small as the gorge towers over you. Some of the cliffs are 80m high!
The first delight you see is the Treasury, one of the first and most incredible treats within Petra. There is also the amphitheatre and many caves to explore. I only wish I’d had more time! Being on an organised tour may have taken the transport issue out of my hands, but it resulted in a bit of a rushed trip.

Still, with the way the world is at the moment, this may have been my only chance to visit Petra and what an incredible experience it was to walk amongst such an ancient incredible space.
