Photo Friday: W is for ‘Wales’

Where do you come from?

I may be a Kiwi born and bred, but my grandparents came from Wales and Scotland. I love Scotland, but finding a birth certificate for my visa was going to be easier going through the Welsh grandparent whom I never knew (I didn’t know any of them, but I knew which town this one came from). Having achieved my ancestry visa for the UK based on my Welsh heritage, back in 2011 I wanted to find out more about the place my grandfather was born in: Swansea.

Many people (as usual) told me Swansea wasn’t a great place, but I’m glad I checked it out for myself. While I was there Cardiff and the Mumbles were also on the itinerary, giving me a good insight into what Wales was like. Swansea was a quiet but lovely spot. The Mumbles and Gower Peninsula reminded me of the waterfronts in New Zealand. And Cardiff was a nice city with an array of lovely architecture. All in all, Wales was lovely, friendly and beautiful.
